Everybody deserves to experience smooth and seamless internet connectivity, and to meet this challenge, telecoms companies need to monitor and manage what they offer to their customers.

At POP Telecom, we’re no different. We want to continue offering excellent services to all of our customers, so to ensure everyone benefits equally from a share of the available bandwidth, we have a fair usage policy that applies to our broadband packages.

What is a fair usage policy?

In short, this is a data fair usage policy to ensure that everyone gets an equal share of the bandwidth available. Under the terms of fair usage policies, internet service providers have the right to limit your capacity if your usage could be slowing down other people’s broadband connections.
This basically means that your provider will monitor the amount of information or data you use to ensure a level playing field for all customers. For the most part, people are unaware of this because they use the services they pay for in a natural way that doesn’t contravene fair usage policies.
Fair usage limits can also apply to landline and mobile calls, so it’s a good idea to read the details of these policies when signing up to agreements to ensure you know exactly what you’re entitled to.

What is the POP Telecom fair usage policy?

Broadband/fibre optic broadband

Good news – this is completely unrestricted. We apply no traffic management to our consumer broadband deals.
Fibre optic broadband can be supplied with a 100Gb or 500Gb limit, or with unlimited usage. We state the allowance that applies in our offers.

Anytime bundle

For our anytime bundle deals, you’re entitled to up to 1,200 minutes (or 20 hours) of calls to numbers starting with 01, 02 or 03, provided calls last under an hour. Should you wish to spend more than an hour on a phone call, you can simply hang up BEFORE 59 minutes and then redial, and the call will be included within the bundle.

Anytime bundle that includes mobiles or international calls

For our anytime bundle deals, you’re entitled to up to 1000 minutes of calls to numbers starting with 01, 02 or 03, or UK main mobile networks or international calls (only the destinations included within the bundle and only to international landlines) provided calls last under an hour. Should you wish to spend more than an hour on a phone call, you can simply hang up BEFORE 59 minutes and then redial, and the call will be included within the bundle.

Evening and weekend calls

Our evening and weekend call packages mean you can make as many calls as you like to 01, 02 or 03 numbers between 7pm and 7am Monday to Friday, and all day on Saturday and Sunday. Again, for numbers starting 01, 02 or 03, you just need to make sure your calls stay under an hour.

Unlimited mobile calls and unlimited SMS

This bundle entitles you to 3,000 minutes of calls to mobiles and 3,000 SMS messages a month. Again, calls need to be 59 minutes or shorter, and please note that you must dial eight numbers or more per month.

Why is traffic management necessary?

As with any traffic, be that cars on the road or data on the internet, there will always be ‘peak times’. During these hours, there’s more of a strain on resources, so it’s particularly important that everything runs smoothly.
With telecommunications, the ‘peak times’ are generally during the business week, so daytime hours from Monday to Friday. That’s why we’re able to offer our cheapest deals to cover evenings and weekends.
Applying a small amount of traffic management helps us keep our deals as affordable as possible and ensures everyone is getting the great service they expect. In truth, most of our customers never notice it.
